New Projects
Sweet Street
FHP Partnership Ltd has been appointed by Deltalord Ltd to design the mechanical and electrical services for a seven storey 150,000 ft2 development on Sweet Street, Leeds. The development will include 110,000 ft2 of office accommodation together with retail accommodation at ground floor level. The office accommodation will be comfort cooled throughout and solar panels will be used to provide the heat source for the domestic hot water usage, and the project will be designed to achieve a ‘very good’ BREEAM rating.

Projects Tendered

Donkin Valves
FHP Partnership Ltd has been analysing the mechanical and electrical Tender returns for a new Bryan Donkin Valves factory and office accommodation project in Staveley in Derbyshire. The project involves the construction of a new factory development by Thornfield Properties plc on a former colliery site that will become the new home of Bryan Donkin Valves when they move from their current premises at Derby Road in Chesterfield, which are also being developed by Thornfield Properties plc.

The factory project includes the provision of services infrastructure, heating, ventilation, domestic water services, compressed air installations, lighting, small power and power to process equipment and cranes, CCTV, lift, fire alarms and security systems. The project starts on site in July 2005 and is due to be completed early next year.

Corby Town Centre
FHP Partnership Ltd has issued the tender documents for the mechanical, electrical and lift services installations for the redevelopment of Willow Place/Oasis in Corby town centre by TOPS Estates plc. The project involves the demolition of an existing office building and the creation of 26No new retail units. The project also includes the modification of existing shop units to create kiosks for market traders and the refurbishment of an existing multi-storey car park to modern secure standards.

The services works will include diversions of existing statutory services and the provision of new supplies to the centre. Water, power, fire alarms and sprinklers will be provided to the new units, together with all services to landlord’s areas, including lighting and external feature lighting to the building and new sprinkler tanks and pumps to serve the new parts of the centre.

The demolition works have already begun on site and the project is due to complete late in 2006, in time for the tenants to fit-out for Christmas trading.

Appointment of Director
FHP Partnership Ltd has offered the post of Director to Phil Carter and we are pleased to say that he has accepted the offer.

Phil joined FHP in 1986 as a mechanical services draughtsman/technician and over the past 19 years has progressed through the ranks to reach Associate in 1997 and finally to Director, we wish him well in his new appointment.

Meadowhall Design Team Activity Day
Twenty four members of the Meadowhall design team spent an entertaining day at The Marriott Hotel, Tong on 5th May organised by Laing O’Rourke Northern where the skills of the team were severely tested by taking part in cross-bow shooting, hovercraft driving, Laser clay pigeon shooting, air rifle shooting and off-road Land Rover driving.

The teams taking part were made up from personnel from FHP Partnership Ltd, British Land, Meadowhall Centre Ltd, Day Management Partnership, Benoy Ltd, Jefferson Sheard Architects, Connell Mott MacDonald, Todd & Ledson, Laing O’Rourke and Crown House Technology and the winning team included Steve Jackson from FHP and the Top Performer of the Day Award went to Phil Carter of FHP.

Meadowhall Centre, Sheffield

The contract for the installation of the Mechanical and Electrical services designed by FHP Partnership Ltd for Contract 1 of the refurbishment of the malls at Meadowhall Centre has been awarded to Crown House Technologies as sub-contractor to Laing O’Rourke.

The refurbishment project will include the replacement of the lighting throughout the centre to suit the proposed new ceiling arrangement and the introduction of cooling to the malls, together with replacement of the existing air handling plant serving the malls.

The works to Contract 1 will start on site shortly and will take around 60 weeks to complete and will take place on a phased basis. In order to ensure no disruption to the operation of the centre all works on the malls will be carried out at night.

Connecting the City, Bradford

FHP Partnership Ltd was appointed by City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council to design the diversions of the Mechanical and Electrical services in the vicinity of the proposed Broadway Centre last year and works began on site in August. The works involved diverting the services around the site utilising a common services trench where possible to minimise disruption to the traffic flow around the city.

The project has just been awarded a prestigious ‘Highly Commended’ certificate following an audit carried out by the Institute of Civil Engineers for excellence in concept, design and execution of Civil Engineering works.

New Contracts Awarded
Following on from the successful ‘Connecting the City’ contract Bradford Metropolitan District Council has appointed FHP Partnership Ltd on the Shipley Sustainable Development Project to design the Mechanical and Electrical services diversions and new supplies to the new development.
FHP Partnership Ltd has also been appointed by Exeter College, Oxford to design the mechanical and electrical services associated with the complete refurbishment of the college’s kitchens, and as the kitchens are in a Grade 1 listed building the task is not an easy one, particularly as this involves the introduction of a new sub station in a Grade 1 listed housing!
FHP Partnership Ltd has been appointed by a leading midlands based M&E contractor to carry out the detailed mechanical and electrical services design for several ‘Design and Build’ projects in the London, Oxford and Leeds areas.
FHP Partnership Ltd has just issued the Facilities Management package for Acxiom Ltd’s new data centre facility at Normanton, for which FHP Partnership Ltd oversaw the design of the mechanical, electrical, fire protection and IT systems by the landlord’s design team.
FHP Partnership Ltd are currently finalising the report on the quadrennial inspection of the mechanical and electrical services at Bishopthorpe Palace, and this will be issued before the end of February. The palace is the official home of the Archbishop of York and stands in 9 acres of grounds adjacent the river Ouse and is used for conferences, receptions and dinners.
FHP Partnership Ltd has been appointed by Colliers CRE to carry out pre-acquisition surveys on a chain of nursing homes in the North East of England. The surveys involve the production of a report on the mechanical and electrical services within each of the buildings to identify any issues that need to be remedied and to cost the works required. The surveys and issue of the reports on all eight nursing homes had to be carried out within eight days of the instruction to proceed with the works.
